Thanks to his unwanted artwork a young vandal’s family now face eviction from their council flat.
Known graffiti artist, John Blake, 19, from Bonington House, Ayley Croft Estate was arrested by Southbury Safer Neighbourhood Team after his ‘tag’ was seen in the estate.
Blake was convicted at Enfield Magistrates Court on 16.3.07, where he was sentenced to 2 months in Feltham Young Offenders Institute. He also received an ASBO which prohibits him from carrying any item linked to graffiti, or associating with anyone carrying such items.
The ASBO starts when he is released from Feltham and lasts for two years.
John Blake was the first person in Enfield to receive an ASBO for graffiti. In December 2005, a post conviction ASBO was issued at Enfield Magistrates Court after he was found responsible for over £1,000 of criminal damage on the Ayley Croft estate.
As he has breached the conditions of his tenancy by engaging in anti social behaviour, now both he and his father face eviction from Bonington House.
Cllr Matthew Laban, Cabinet Member for Housing said “Blake was living in council accommodation and all the time was going around his own council estate vandalising property with his unwanted graffiti.
“This immature behaviour brings down the entire area and encourages anti social behaviour, and thanks to his actions, now it will not only be Blake who is homeless but his father as well.
“This sends out a clear message that graffiti will not be tolerated by the council, and I am sure that many young vandals do not realise when they are caught if they live in council accommodation then their whole family face eviction. “
