Local residents joined forces to give High Broom Woods in West Wickham a loving make-over. Over 25 keen volunteers of all ages were on hand to get involved in a number of tasks to improve the piece of ancient woodland with assistance and guidance from the Bromley’s Parks and Community Service team. A ‘Friends of’ group is currently being established to look after the woods, interested residents should contact the Council to find out more about becoming a custodian.
“Our thanks go to those residents who turned up and worked incredibly hard on the day. We are delighted that we can provide this support and encouragement to local groups wanting to make a difference. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Friend of a park then please contact us.” said Toby Smith, Community Service Manager.
With advice and tools provided by members of the Bromley’s Parks and Community team, volunteers helped to spruce up the woodland, clearing away an impressive 30 bags of rubbish including an eight-foot step ladder! The work carried out is in preparation for wildlife habitat improvement work, which the newly formed Friends of group will be undertaking alongside Bromley Council.
The first meeting of the Friends of High Broom Woods is due to take place on Monday 30th April at 7pm at Emmanuel Church Hall, The Grove, West Wickham. For further information please call 020 8313 4471 or email landscape.helpdesk@bromley.gov.uk
