The BADBMX Club invited youngsters from the Borough to take part in a four day BMX event that was organised by Bill Wright who is the British Cycling Association Go-Ride Coach for East London.

Fifty-three children took part in the exciting event that took place from Tuesday, 10 April to Friday, 13 April at the BADBMX Track in Old Dagenham Park. The lucky youngsters were taught how to ride a BMX bike by the number one coach in the country, CK Flash. He has coached five riders from different age categories and helped them to become number one in the country in their fields.

The event helped the youngsters to get involved in BMXing, to promote proper BMX riding and coaching safety. Special guests included Daniel Whyte from the British Cycle Talent Team, who is one of the top three riders for his age category for BMXing.

At the beginning of the week CK Flash taught basic skills for BMXing and built upon the skills as the children's confidence in BMXing grew. The end of the week saw them practising their racing skills.

CK Flash said: "The event was very successful for the youngsters who took part. As of 2008, BMXing will be an Olympic Sport and I was scouting for local talent for the Olympic Games. The BADBMX club have a lot of good riders and with the right coaching could go far. BMX Racing is a fast paced, technical and competitive sport and is proving a popular event for young people."

Cllr Bob Little, Executive Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture said: "It was a great opportunity for young people from the Borough to be part of this event. They were taught by a professional coach and BMXing has an exciting future as the sport will be part of the 2012 Olympics."
