Two information events will be held at Stanley Park High School to explain a specific statutory consultation to increase both the number of pupils at the school and its specialist provision.
Sutton Council is seeking views on a proposal to increase the school by one form of entry (30 pupils in each year) to a seven-form entry school and to establish a new 56-place Moderate Autistic Spectrum Disorder ASD base co located at a proposed new site at Orchard Hill.
The consultation will focus only on the increase in the school pupil number and ASD provision.
The events to be held in the Assembly Hall, Stanley Park Road, are intended to explain the proposal and involve as many interested people as possible.
The meetings will take place on Wednesday 9 May between 7pm and 9pm and on Saturday 12 May between 10am and 12noon.
Cllr Tony Brett Young, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Learning Services, said: "The council's Executive recently decided that without ruling out the school's existing site more work needs to be done to assess the Orchard Hill site as a possible new home for the school. This consultation is an essential step before a decision is made. At the end of the day if it is not possible to build on the Orchard Hill site, it will not be possible to either increase the size of the school or establish the moderate ASD base."
Further consultation on the design, construction and impact of these proposed facilities would take place if the council's Executive decides to progress further the relocation of the school to the Orchard Hill site.
An analysis of the future demographics of the local pupil population together with the educational case for expansion and the need for a moderate ASD base can be accessed via the council's website www.sutton.gov.uk
You can also share your views on the proposal before 5pm on 8 June by either e-mailing stanleyparkconsultation@sutton.gov.uk , phoning the contact centre on 0208 770 6080 or by writing to the Chief Executive, London Borough of Sutton, Civic Offices, St Nicholas Way, Sutton, SM1 1ZL.
A decision on a site for a new school is expected to be made by the council's Executive on 9 July where the results of the consultation will be reported.
